Fitness Test: My Results Are In!

I am happy to report that I managed to complete a workout on my treadmill 5 days in a row last week, Monday - Friday!  It is my goal to do the same again this week.  I'm making it a priority to take the time to stay active and I know that my dedication will pay off in the end.

On Friday, I decided to complete the fitness test on my Smooth Fitness folding treadmill for the very first time since its arrival.  This program grades you on your speed of completion, which is determined by how far can you walk, jog or run in 12 minutes.  You receive 1 of 5 grades: very bad, bad, average, good or very good.

Before I even began the program, I knew that my results were not going to be the greatest.  However, I went into it determined to do my best and give it my all.  I will be the first to admit that I'm not a runner, and a year ago I couldn't even jog around the kids school - which is less than a 1/4 mile.

I turned up the music choice hit list, loud and upbeat.  I started off a little slow, 3.5 and ended a little quicker, 4.7 speed on the treadmill.  I knew that I wanted to jog instead of walk, and was going to give it everything I could in order to keep going.

After losing 56 pounds, could I jog for a full 12 minutes?

I'm proud to say that I could and I did!  Even though I wasn't the fastest, I jogged for the full 12 minutes without stopping and managed to go 0.93 miles...  My result was "BAD,but in my eyes it was a success.  A year ago I never would have been able to jog almost a mile without stopping.  I'm proving to myself that my hard work is paying off and that I can achieve things that I never thought were possible.  It's all downhill from here!

I'm going to complete the fitness test every Friday in hopes of making it just a little bit farther each time.

Great job! At 6+ months pregnant I am not in running form at the moment. Lol. I love my treadmill because it is the only way (day, night, or bad weather) that I can get my workout on. Keep up the good work.

You have to start somewhere! I have to say 56 lbs is amazing! I couldn't run 12 minutes - hoping to change that very soon!

Wow! That 'bad' is certainly not really that bad after all. I would say that you've improved and progressed so much that realistically it should have said 'very good'! I think you are absolutely right about hard work paying off. Time and effort really does make a difference. I don't think I can jog a mile without stopping, but my fitness is based on my health condition, which restricts my energy level. I do want to start slowly and work myself back up to a better level of fitness, though, and you are a great inspiration in attempting and completing that goal.

Great job! I can't run/jog very far.

I cannot run/jog or jog because of knee and back problems which is why I cycle. I have three circuits which I do depending on the day and my time restraints. 8miles, 10miles and 12 miles! I usually cycle at least three times a week depending on the weather.

I can't run for to long, but I enjoy jogging while listening to my music on my iPod. Not sure the exact length that I can jog for, but it is pretty good run.
