One Step at a Time: I Completed my First Fun Run of the Year!

My nine year old daughter and I completed our first fun run of the year over the weekend.  We woke up bright and early on Saturday morning with a goal in mind, and we were determined to succeed.  I have been training at home on my Smooth Fitness treadmill and was eager to see how I could do out on the open road.

My treadmill has several different programs that can help you prepare and train.   Whether it's a walk in the park or a hike in the mountains you can record your favorite workout and repeat it as many times as you like. As your fitness level changes you can modify these programs to meet your specific needs.  Different speeds, inclines, and endurance levels make reaching your full potential well within your reach.

I knew that running outside was going to be different than the jogging I had been doing on my treadmill, but I was hopeful that my hard work was going to pay off.  The fun run was 3.1 miles and my daughter and I set out to see just how far we could run...

Although we weren't able to jog the entire way (that was our original goal), I would say that we managed to run "on and off" about 2/3 of the way.  It took us 36:41 which is a 12 minute mile.  Not the greatest, but we are getting better and faster as each day goes by.

My daughter kept asking, "Are we last?  I don't want to be last."  Even though we weren't last, I just told her that even if we were to finish last that it didn't matter.  As long as we crossed the finish line, we were winners!

I participate in all sorts of runs. I'm even hosting a virtual 5k now to raise money for the USO. I love hearing your thoughts on the treadmill as we're hoping to purchase one before winter arrives again or my husband has to leave for an extended period of time.

I've been trying to become a better runner but I'm not ready to do a 5k or 10k just yet. I do better on the treadmill than outside, which I hear is the opposite of most people.

Good for you!!

Congratulations on completing your first run! I imagine if I tried to run a mile, it would take me about a half hour, so 12 minutes seems great to me. :-)

That's great that your treadmill is helping you to accomplish your running goals. It looks like a great machine!

I bought a treadmill last year.... then broke my leg and ankle a few weeks later. Yeah, that didn't work out so well. Hoping to get back to it soon!

Way to go! For just starting out, I don't think a 12 minute mile is bad at all!

A 12 minute mile is great! We have been in the market for a cardio machine- thanks for the review!

You have to start somewhere, right! Getting your kids involved is a great way to keep them active and increase your own motivation. My boys, ages 6 and 9, have run a fair amount of 5K races. My oldest and I did a local 5 miler last night, it was his first. Towards the end I could tell it was getting tougher on him but he never quit. Keep up the good work!
