Teenagers

Guest post of the week by Nestor Nielsen

Why is it that my teenager insists on listening to blaring music on her ipod while she does her homework? I know that I used to beg my mom to let me watch Bronx Direct tv while I did my homework, so I get the whole thing about wanting background noise. But, how in the world could she possible concentrate with all that screaming in her ear. She doesn’t like soft rock music or classical music; she is into the head-banging kind of music that I personally just can’t stand.

I can’t figure out if this is one of those things that I should give in on and not make a mountain over a mole hill, or is this something that I should stand my ground on because it has to do with her education. Do you let your teenager listen to hard core music while doing homework? I may mention this at the next parent-teacher conference and see if they have any advice or knowledge as to whether this is okay or not.
