Most Anticipated Movies of 2012

2012 has a great slate of incredible films that are highly anticipated. Some of these films are sequels or prequels to original franchises. Others are adaptations of books or stories. Whatever the source, these movies are anticipated to deliver a lot of fun and excitement this coming movie season.

"The Dark Night Rises Again"

After suffering a box office and critical death in the hands of Joel Schumacher, Batman was resurrected by film director Christopher Nolan. Nolan brought back the dark grittiness and serious tone that had characterized Tim Burton's successful Batman movies.

The plot takes place eight years after Nolan's record breaking "The Dark Knight."
A Villain named Bane shows up in Gotham city and begins causing major problems. Catwoman also appears, forcing Batman out of service reluctantly.

Christian Bale returns as Bruce Wayne. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is also back as is Gary Oldman and Michael Kane. Anne Hathaway was cast against type as Selina Kyle aka Catwoman. Head to theaters on July 20, 2012 to catch this exciting new chapter in the Batman series.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

Peter Jackson returns to Middle Earth and "The Lord of the Rings" by filming its prequel, "The Hobbit." This story tells how Bilbo Baggins got a hold of the One Ring and introduces a wide range of characters including Gandalf the Grey and Gollum. Except Jackson's typical technical wizardy and careful attention to source material.

Martin Freeman joins the series as the young Bilbo Baggins. Older Bilbo will still be played by Ian Holm. Ian McKellen returns as Gandalf the Grey. Andy Serkis reprises his role as Gollum. Elijah Wood returns to play Frodo with Orlando Bloom reprising his role as Legolas. Expect a theatrical release on December 14, 2012.

Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted

"Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted" features the whole Madagascar crew, including Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Gloria the Hippo and Melman the Giraffe. They are still trying to get back to New York but wind up in a traveling circus in Europe. Eric Darnell directs while Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, David Schwimmer and Jada Pinkett-Smith all return to reprise previous roles. See this funny, clever and irreverent movie on June 8, 2012.

The Hunger Games

"The Hunger Games" is a hugely successful novel that takes place in a dystopian future. The government chooses several boys and girls to fight to the death on live television every year. The movie adaptation is directed and written by Gary Ross. It's cast include Woody Harrleson, Elizabeth Banks, Josh Hutcherson, Jennifer Lawerence and Stanely Tucci. Watch out for this dark vision of the future on March 23, 2012.
